Springfield Roofing completed a custom sloped roof installation in Michigan for a community civic center that serves as a central hub for health, wellness, and community life. The facility supports physical fitness, community events, and wellness activities, and plays a vital role in encouraging healthy living among community members.
What makes this custom sloped roof installation especially unique is the building’s design itself — a distinctive, multi-faceted, curved architecture rooted in cultural symbolism meaningful to the community it serves. Early in the project, the team discussed the option of a single-color membrane to reduce cost, but a dual-color, patterned finish was ultimately chosen to keep the roof true to the design intent and cultural significance of the building. The curved rooflines and varied elevations required custom solutions, detailed planning, and close collaboration between Springfield’s team, Duro-Last, and the client over the course of more than a year. Springfield was the only contractor willing to be involved in the planning and design process from the outset, in addition to submitting a bid.
Delivering a custom sloped roof installation of this scale in Michigan called for a carefully staged, highly specialized approach:
The building’s curved, multi-faceted form ruled out a standard, off-the-shelf roofing approach – a custom sloped roof installation was the only way to meet both the technical and design requirements of the project. A custom-fit insulation and membrane system allowed the team to follow the building’s unique contours precisely while still delivering the performance and waterproofing integrity of a standard Duro-Last system. Retaining the dual-color, patterned membrane preserved the architectural and cultural intent of the design, proving that a technically demanding, highly custom roof could be achieved in Michigan’s climate without compromising on aesthetics or long-term performance.
Following a final inspection by both Springfield’s team and the Duro-Last manufacturer, the completed roof system was issued a full 15-year manufacturer’s warranty. The project stands as one of the more architecturally complex roofs Springfield has completed, and the team was proud to deliver a solution that respects the building’s design significance while enhancing its long-term durability and performance for the community it serves. Additionally, Springfield was awarded the 2025 Duro-Last Specialty Membrane Project of the Year for this re-roof project.
